About these operating instructions

1. Function

This manual provides the necessary information for assembly, commissioning, safe operation and dismantling of the glossterm::XRT-ENCI[X-Ray Tomograph For Extracting Nondestructively Cuniform Instructions]

Special legal rules and regulations apply to the operation of X-ray machines; these can vary depending on the area of use. The regulations at the place of use always apply. The operating instructions must always be kept in a legible condition and accessible.

2. Structure and purpose of the documentation

These operating instructions are intended for the professional assembly, operation and maintenance of the XRT-ENCI. It is logically divided into chapters that ensure safe use for the user. Before assembling, connecting and commissioning the system and its components, these instructions must be read carefully.

3. Target groups: authorized specialist personnel

All operations described in these operating instructions may only be carried out by trained personnel authorized by the system operator be carried out by qualified personnel.

Only install the device if you have read and understood the operating instructions and are familiar with the applicable regulations on occupational safety and accident prevention. Special regulations apply to the commissioning of X-ray machines; it is linked to qualified knowledge of the relevant laws and the special requirements of the device manufacturer and may only be carried out by particularly qualified personnel.

6. Intended use

XRT-ENCI is a modular, mobile X-ray device for the X-ray tomographic examination of artifacts and other material samples. During operation, intensive X-rays are generated inside the system and are used to x-ray the samples. The sample can be moved in all directions on a motorized carriage and rotated around the vertical axis. The sample must be secured on the sample plate to prevent it from falling. X-rays can cause damage to samples or objects in the measuring chamber. This must be taken into account when determining the duration of the irradiation and when choosing the X-ray energy and power. The X-rays are prevented from escaping through constructive measures.
The X-ray tomograph may only be operated when completely closed and by authorized specialist personnel.

7. Commissioning

Before putting the system into operation, a visual inspection and a radiation protection measurement must be carried out using a suitable measuring device. Please read the section Commissioning of the tomograph without delay.
